The official language of the UAE is Arabic. However, due to its cosmopolitan nature, English is widely spoken and understood, making it easy for tourists to communicate and navigate throughout the country.
Travel Requirements
Before traveling to the UAE, it is essential to check the visa requirements for your nationality country. The UAE has visa-on-arrival arrangements for some countries. Check with the UAE embassy or consulate in your home country for the most up-to-date information.
Public Transportation
The UAE has a well-developed transportation system that makes getting around the country a breeze. In major cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, you’ll find an extensive network of taxis, buses, and metro trains. Renting a car is also a popular option for those who prefer flexibility and independence.
Currency
The official currency of the UAE is the Emirati Dirham (AED). ATMs are widely available, and credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls. It’s advisable to carry some cash for small purchases and when visiting local markets.
Climate
The UAE experiences a desert climate, characterised by hot summers and mild winters. Summers are scorching, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F), while winters are more pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 27°C (57°F to 75°F). My favourite time of the year to visit the UAE is November to March.
Food
The UAE offers a delightful culinary experience, with a fusion of Arabian, Middle Eastern, and international cuisines. From lavish fine dining restaurants to humble street food stalls, you’ll find a range of options to tentalise your tastebuds.
Voltage
The standard voltage in the UAE is 220-240 volts AC. The country uses the British three-pin plug, so it’s advisable to bring a universal travel adapter if your devices use a different plug type.
Safety
The UAE is generally considered a safe country for tourists. It has a low crime rate and strict security measures in place. The law is very strict in the UAE and infringement can result in high fines or jail so make sure you educate yourself on what is and is not allowed.
